The Range

Six things you can ride out of here

Road bikes, dual sports, dirt bikes, scooters, quads and junior machines. What sits on the floor changes constantly, so this page explains the categories rather than pretending to be a live stock list.

How to use this page

We are a single dealership in a town of fifteen thousand people. Stock turns over quickly and a published inventory would be wrong within a week, so we have not published one.

What follows is what we consistently carry, and who each category actually suits. Ring the sales counter on (08) 9192 4470 for what is physically on the floor today, what is in transit, and current pricing.

Prices are quoted, not listed. Ride-away pricing in the north west depends on freight, pre-delivery, registration and what the manufacturer is running at the time. A published figure would be misleading more often than it was accurate, so we quote per machine instead.

Road motorcycles

Road and Sport Touring

Kawasaki's road range, from learner approved through to litre class. In Broome the practical considerations are heat management in traffic, luggage capacity if you are covering distance, and whether the bike is comfortable on a corrugated stretch of shoulder when you have to pull over for a road train.

Most road riders here also want a centre stand and decent wind protection. Both matter far more on a 600 kilometre ride to Port Hedland than they do in a city.

Dual sport and adventure

For gravel, station tracks and long distance

Dual Sport and Adventure

The most sensible category for the Kimberley, and the one we sell most of to people who actually ride out of town. A registered dual sport handles the Gibb River Road, the sealed run to Derby and the trip to the shops equally well.

Worth spending money on: bash plate, hand guards, decent tyres and a rack. Worth spending money on later: everything else. We would rather sell you a mid-size bike with good protection than a bigger one with none.

Dirt and motocross

For the track, the paddock and the club

Motocross and Enduro

Competition and recreational dirt machines, plus enduro bikes that can be registered. These are not road vehicles and are not covered by a road insurance policy, which catches people out regularly — see the insurance page.

Air filters are the consumable that matters here. Red pindan dust will destroy an engine that is run on a dirty filter, and it happens faster than most riders expect.

Scooters

For getting around town cheaply

Commuter Scooters

V Moto, Giantco, Znen and Adly, in the 50cc to 150cc range. Broome is flat, compact and hot, which makes a scooter a genuinely rational choice for anybody whose riding is entirely within town.

They are not built for the highway and we will tell you so. If your commute includes a stretch of open road at a hundred kilometres an hour, buy a motorcycle instead.

Quads and side by sides

Off road trails through scrub country

For stations, properties and work sites

ATVs and Side by Sides

CF Moto and Adly quads and side by sides, sold mostly as work machines to stations, properties and contractors. These are tools, and we spec them as tools: towing capacity, tray, spare wheel, and serviceability with basic equipment a long way from a workshop.

Operator protection devices, helmets and training matter on these machines. Quad incidents on rural properties are one of the more common serious injuries in agriculture in this country, and most of them happen at low speed on ground the rider knew.

Junior and pit bikes

Thumpstar and Junior Machines

Thumpstar pit bikes and junior machines in the small capacities, which is where most riders in this town started. We stock the parts for them, which matters more than the initial purchase — a junior bike that cannot be repaired locally stops being ridden within a season.

Buy the gear at the same time as the bike. A helmet, boots, gloves and a chest protector are not optional on a machine a child will fall off, and the fitting matters more than the brand.

Used bikes and trade-ins

We carry used stock alongside new, and we take trade-ins. A used bike from a remote town has usually worked harder than the same model from a city, so we inspect anything we take in and tell buyers honestly what condition it is in.

What we check on used stock
Checked Why it matters here
Chain and sprockets The fastest wearing item on any Kimberley bike, and a good indicator of how the previous owner maintained it
Air filter and airbox Dust ingestion causes engine wear that does not show on an odometer
Corrosion at fasteners and frame Salt air near the coast, and mud packed into places it does not wash out of
Fork seals and bearings Corrugations destroy suspension components faster than kilometres alone suggest
Wiring and connectors Humidity and vibration together cause intermittent faults that are hard to chase later
Service history A stamped log book is worth real money at resale and we will tell you if it is missing

Ordering something we do not have

We can order any model in the ranges we carry. Realistic lead time from order to Broome is several weeks in the dry and longer in the wet, because everything comes by road.

If you need a machine by a particular date — a mustering season, a school holiday, a race meeting — tell us the date when you order, not afterwards. We will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
